The Eclipse Foundation has released its Rich AJAX Platform (RAP) 1.0, which allows developers to create rich Internet applications based on Eclipse’s component model.

An excerpt from eWEEK:

Organizations using RAP are now able to create AJAX applications and RIAs that are component-based and integrate into existing enterprise systems, said Jochen Krause, CEO of Innoopract.

The modular componentized approach lets developers leverage Java to deploy rich Internet applications rather than spend time on JavaScript on a different framework. The firm Innoopract is leading the development of the platform at the Eclipse Foundation.

The freely downloadable AJAX server enables the reuse of an existing code base for both desktop and Web applications based on the Eclipse framework. Future releases will hopefully incorporate more features from other Java Web frameworks.
